book launch

WHILE YOU WERE GONE hits shelves today!

Posted on

Hey everyone! Exciting news around here. The second book of the Duplexity series, WHILE YOU WERE GONE, is officially released into the wild!

Here’s the trailer, in case you haven’t feasted your eyes on it yet:

And here’s what reviewers are saying:

“Danny and Eevee have off-the-charts chemistry. The nonromantic storylines…allow the characters to develop outside of their romance. The novel’s tense and exciting throughout…lots of fun on multiple levels.” – KIRKUS

“Nichols is clever in reimagining characters in the alternate universe, keeping readers entertained throughout. A great modern-day science fiction novel for fans of time travel or the television show Fringe… A fun great back-to-school series to introduce to students as they think about where else they could be and what their lives might be like elsewhere.” – School Library Journal

“Fans of the first book will flock to this one, but the books can easily be read in either order.” – VOYA

“Both Eevees are smart, daring, and attracted to the Danny in their universe. While science is not as prominent in this novel, the sci-fi backstory adds a thought provoking undercurrent to a sweet love story that revolves around larger societal issues.” – Booklist

If you haven’t purchased your copy yet, you can do so at any of these fine booksellers. Thank you!

If you enjoyed reading NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE, please tell your friends! A lot of this business comes down to word of mouth. Please also leave a review online to help spread word that this book is a great read. I really appreciate your support. Thank you!

To celebrate the release of NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE, I held a party at the First Draft Book Bar inside the Changing Hands Bookstore’s Phoenix location. Soooooo many people showed up! The place was packed and the store ran out of books. They said it was their largest YA event to date at that location. So awesome!! Thank you!!

Then I zoomed over to San Diego to participate in the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore holiday party, where I mingled with a dozen other authors and signed books. It was such a blast! I got to see fellow Class of 2k14 author Stephanie Diaz, and got to chat with the likes of Weston Ochse, Jonathan Maberry and Jeff Cohen. I also got to see the wonderful Maryelizabeth Hart, who I swear is a superhero whose mutant power is awesomeness. It was a dream come true to see NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE on the shelves there.

The next day I zipped back over to Arizona and met up with my mentor and friend James Sallis to have a conversation and book signing at The Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale. Another full house, and another run on books. They sold out, too! It was a fun event with lots of Q&A’s with those in the audience. And again, so amazing to see NTYH included among so many books I’ve long admired. Dream come true. Thank you to everyone who came!

While I was running around to bookstores, things were happening online, too.

NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE was reviewed by the USA Today HEA blog and included in their Must-Read Romances.

It received a glowing review from the School Library Journal, and was included in their “What’s Hot in YA” winter list.

VOYA reviewed it, saying, “Think of the intrigue in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series, softened by the romance of a Sarah Dessen novel.”

And Bustle included it in their December 2014’s Best YA Books: Stuff Your Own Christmas Stocking with These 9 Novels list.

In case you missed previous reviews, here’s what Kirkus and Publishers Weekly had to say about NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE. PW gave it a star!

My stops for the second week of my Rock Star Blog Tour included:
Page Turners Blog
Once Upon a Twilight
The Cover Contessa

In the meantime, I have to say it again: thank you. This has been an amazing journey, and I couldn’t have done it without you. ❤

Touching the Surface: A book with heart

Posted on

One of the things I love most about being a writer is meeting other writers, because sometimes when I meet other writers, I’m actually making a new friend.

A few years ago during a whirlwind trip to New York, I met Kimberly J. Sabatini. Kim has a heart big enough to hug the whole world. We became fast friends, laughing together and sharing our stories while searching out geocaches in a frozen city at midnight.

Kim is one of those friends you can just pick up with right where you left off, regardless of how much time has gone by since you last met. She’s one of those friends who’ll drop everything to help someone in need and who offers her shoulder when you need a good cry.

One of the fun things about having a blog is helping spread the word when a friend accomplishes something great. So, here I am today helping spread the word about Kim. Today is the book birthday for her debut YA novel, TOUCHING THE SURFACE.

From Amazon:

Experience the afterlife in this lyrical, paranormal debut novel that will send your heart soaring.

When Elliot finds herself dead for the third time, she knows she must have messed up, big-time. She doesn’t remember how she landed in the afterlife again, but she knows this is her last chance to get things right.

Elliot just wants to move on, but first she will be forced to face her past and delve into the painful memories she’d rather keep buried. Memories of people she’s hurt, people she’s betrayed…and people she’s killed.

As she pieces together the secrets and mistakes of her past, Elliot must find a way to earn the forgiveness of the person she’s hurt most, and reveal the truth about herself to the two boys she loves…even if it means losing them both forever.

TOUCHING THE SURFACE is a rich, thought-provoking read, crafted by a very talented author. And I’m not just saying that because she’s a friend. Kim has written her heart in the pages of this book.

Also, there’s a pretty sweet contest over at the Class of 2k12 to celebrate the book launch you should check out.

Congratulations, Kim, on the release of TOUCHING THE SURFACE! I’m certain this is just the first of many books to come. Wishing you much success, my friend.
