With all the holiday hubbub, I failed to post the announcement of the final Class of 2k14 book birthday! My apologies. If you want to read up on all of the books from the Class of 2k14, head on over to our official site. Lots of good stuff going on over there.
Congratulations to Nicole Maggi on the debut of WINTER FALLS!
Alessia Jacobs is a typical sixteen-year-old, dying to get out of her small town of Twin Willows, Maine. Things look up when a new family comes to town, but when she falls for the hot, mysterious son, Jonah, her life turns upside down.
Weird visions of transforming into an otherworldly falcon are just the beginning. Soon she learns she’s part of the Benandanti, an ancient cult of warriors with the unique power to separate their souls from their bodies and take on the forms of magnificent animals.
Alessia never would’ve suspected it, but her boring town is the site of an epic struggle between the Benandanti and the Malandanti to control powerful magic in the surrounding forest.
As Alessia is drawn into the Benandanti’s mission, her relationship with Jonah intensifies. When her two worlds collide, Alessia’s forced to weigh choices a sixteen-year-old should never have to make.
WINTER FALLS is published by Medallion Press.
Nicole Maggi knew she would be a writer since the 3rd grade, when she wrote a story about a rainbow and a unicorn who became friends, and her teacher chose it to read aloud to the class. She took a detour into acting for many years, earning a BFA in Acting from Emerson College and performing in many off-off-Broadway shows during her decade in NYC. Now she lives in Los Angeles with her husband, their daughter Emilia and two cats named Sawyer and Hurley. She practices yoga passionately and will use any excuse to bake something elaborate…mainly so she can eat it as soon as it’s done!

Yesterday a package arrived from my editor. Check out what was inside.
Hardback copies of NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE!
Even though it doesn’t go on sale for another month, it exists. I’ve held it in my hands. Years of work, and suddenly, there it is. It’s difficult to wrap my brain around.
And I have to say–even though I am biased–the book design is amazing. The team at Knopf did an incredible job. The photo doesn’t show it well, but the title ink is shiny and opaque. The cover has a cool, rubbery matte feeling. The colors are dazzling.
But my favorite part is the spine.
When you get your copy (*wink*), be sure to peek under the dust cover. The spine has black-on-black foil printing detail that is just so cool!
Thank you, Knopf, for taking my manuscript and transforming it into a work of art!
And thanks to my editor, Katherine, for the lovely surprise. 🙂

NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE goes on sale December 9, and is available for pre-order now.
Keep your eye on this space for events news soon!
Congratulations to Stefanie Gaither on the debut of FALLS THE SHADOW!
In a near-future world, a sixteen year old girl must decide what she believes and who to trust when her sister’s clone is accused of murder.
When Cate Benson was a kid, her sister died. Two hours after the funeral, they picked up Violet’s replacement, and it was like nothing had ever happened. Because Cate’s parents are among those who decided to give their children a sort of immortality— by cloning them at birth. Which means this new Violet has the same smile. The same laugh. That same perfect face. Thanks to advancements in mind-uploading technology, she even has all the same memories as the girl she replaced.
She also might have murdered the most popular girl in school.
Or at least, that’s what the paparazzi and the crazy anti-cloning protestors want everyone to think: that clones are violent, unpredictable monsters. Cate is used to hearing all that, though. She’s used to defending her sister too—against mean girls, against paparazzi, and now, if necessary, against these dangerous rumors. But then Violet vanishes, and when Cate sets out to find her, she ends up in the line of fire instead. Because Cate is getting dangerously close to staggering secrets that will rock the foundation of everything she thought was true.
FALLS THE SHADOW is published by Simon and Schuster.
After owning and co-managing a coffee shop for several years while simultaneously earning her B.A. in English, Stefanie Gaither left the small business world behind to focus on her author career instead. Congratulations to Amy Zhang on the debut of FALLING INTO PLACE!
She was a little girl who wanted to be a hero, and the world turned her into a tragedy.
So far, Liz Emerson’s attempt at life has been somewhat catastrophic. She spreads rumors, she drinks, and she has a particular talent for ruining lives. And since the only way she knows how to stop is by ending her own, she crashes her car and makes it look look like an accident, certain that she’ll die and be forgotten.
Except. She can’t even do that right.
Narrated by Liz’s childhood imaginary friend as she watches over the broken and unconscious Liz, FALLING INTO PLACE tells their story in terms of countdowns, regrets, and Newton’s Laws of Motion.
FALLING INTO PLACE is published by Greenwillow Books.
Amy Zhang used to have lots of imaginary friends. When people told her to grow up, she turned her imaginary friends into characters and started telling their stories. When she isn’t writing, she can be found playing piano, hitting balls on the tennis court, or struggling through her weekly existential crisis. She lives in Wisconsin with her family.

Congratulations to Elizabeth May on the debut of THE FALCONER!
Set in an alternate 1844 Scotland, The Falconer is about a noblewoman who is the only human being on earth who can stop an insurgence of evil faeries from threatening her life and her city.
She’s a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title — and drop-dead beauty.
She’s a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. She’s leading a double life: She has the rare ability to sense the sìthichean — the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans — and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.
She’s a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her abilities and her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons — from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols — ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.
She’s a Falconer.
The last in a line of female warriors born with the gift for hunting and killing the fae, Aileana is the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity. Suddenly, her quest is a lot more complicated. She still longs to avenge her mother’s murder — but she’ll have to save the world first.
The Falconer is published by Gollancz.
