It exists! I’ve held it in my hands!

Yesterday a package arrived from my editor. Check out what was inside.

Hardback copies of NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE!

NTYH hardback
My editor made her reaction known via sticky notes.

Even though it doesn’t go on sale for another month, it exists. I’ve held it in my hands. Years of work, and suddenly, there it is. It’s difficult to wrap my brain around.

And I have to say–even though I am biased–the book design is amazing. The team at Knopf did an incredible job. The photo doesn’t show it well, but the title ink is shiny and opaque. The cover has a cool, rubbery matte feeling. The colors are dazzling.

But my favorite part is the spine.

When you get your copy (*wink*), be sure to peek under the dust cover. The spine has black-on-black foil printing detail that is just so cool!

What a cool surprise!

Thank you, Knopf, for taking my manuscript and transforming it into a work of art!

And thanks to my editor, Katherine, for the lovely surprise. 🙂

NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE goes on sale December 9, and is available for pre-order now.

Keep your eye on this space for events news soon!

THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN WITCHES by Lauren Magaziner

Today the Class of 2k14 celebrates another book birthday! If you want to read up on all of the books from the Class of 2k14, head on over to our official site. Lots of good stuff going on over there.

Congratulations to Lauren Magaziner on the debut of THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN WITCHES!

About the book:

Roald Dahl meets Eva Ibbotson in this hilarious middle grade debut perfect for reading aloud!

Rupert Campbell is fascinated by the witches who live nearby. He dreams of broomstick tours and souvenir potions, but Rupert’s mother forbids him from even looking at that part of town. The closest he can get to a witchy experience is sitting in class with his awful teacher Mrs. Frabbleknacker, who smells like bellybutton lint and forbids Rupert’s classmates from talking to each other before, during, and after class. So when he sees an ad to become a witch’s apprentice, Rupert simply can’t resist applying.

But Witchling Two isn’t exactly what Rupert expected. With a hankering for lollipops and the magical aptitude of a toad, she needs all the help she can get to pass her exams and become a full-fledged witch. She’s determined to help Rupert stand up to dreadful Mrs. Frabbleknacker too, but the witchling’s magic will be as useful as a clump of seaweed unless Rupert can figure out a way to help her improve her spellcasting—and fast!

The Only Thing Worse than Witches is published by Dial.

Suddenly, there were books with my name on them.

azimuth:0.000000||elevation:0.000000||horizon:0.000000The revisions deadline for WHILE YOU WERE GONE is looming over me like a dark menace, but I had to take time out to post a very cool happening.

I got a package in the mail from my editor, the lovely Katherine Harrison at Knopf, and in the package was books. With my name on them.

My advanced reader copies of NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE had arrived!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen other authors post pics of their ARCs and wondered what that must be like, seeing your book for the first time. Now I know: it’s a very strange feeling. Do I laugh? Cry? Run around the room screaming? Sit and stare, wondering how this ever happened? All of the above? I imagine at some point all of this will feel very normal. But for now it’s a bit Alice-down-the-rabbit-hole. I keep checking to see if the stack of ARCs is still there, to make sure this isn’t actually some surreal dream.

Yep. They’re still there.

And so is that book two deadline. Best get back to work.
